Artist Profile
Hi, I’m Wendy, I live in Hobart, Tasmania, close to the wonderful backdrop of Mt Wellington. Growing up, I lived in both Tasmania and Victoria, mostly in the country. As a child I had a strong interest in art and spent many happy hours drawing cartoon characters. Over the years other things sometimes took precedence, but my love of art remains strong.
I exhibit regularly in local exhibitions and have won several awards. I belong to several local art groups. Chances to broaden my skills and knowledge are very welcome and I take part in any activity that may transfer to my art.
I have experimented with several MEDIA such as watercolour, pen and ink, pastel, oils, printing and coloured pencil. Drawing became my first love, encompassing coloured pencil, pen and ink and graphite in all its forms.
Initially inspired by the landscape, my interest is now more in shapes, textures, design, colour and pattern. I want to produce images reflecting my reactions, vision and feelings, not so much to a particular subject, but to what makes that subject appealing me. I have become more focussed on the composition and design of my images and the elements that create them.
Mixed media and abstracts have become a new adventure and inspiration for me. I find myself fantasizing about what I might do. With this in mind, I have added acrylics to my kit. These developments are refining my skills and style. I am leaving behind the exacting coloured pencil work to pursue a more fluid, loose and relaxed way of working. One that lets me put more of “me” into my art.
